About Beaumont

Founded in 1835, Beaumont, TX, grew thanks to a diverse economy that included shipping, lumber, and retail. In the later 1800s, rice became an important commodity as farms grew up around the town and rice mills sprang up. The discovery of an enormous oil field in nearby Spindeltop resulted in a new economic boom with the addition of the petrochemical industry. The oil industry remains a key employer in Beaumont to this day.

Today Beaumont is one of the larger towns in Texas and a center of industry and culture. Whether you’re driving around town or just passing through, you’ll enjoy a variety of events. Beaumont is home to the second-largest state fair in Texas, the South Texas State Fair, and Rodeo. It is currently held at Fair Park Coliseum, where you’ll also find touring shows and concerts.
